Tax collection due dates are as follows:

  • February 1
  • May 1
  • August 1
  • November 1

By resolution the Township Committee permits a grace period  The grace period for the current year is 5 calendar days.  All tax payments are to be received in the Tax Collector's office on the fifth day of the month in which they are due.

Should the fifth fall on a weekend or holiday, the following regular business day will be the last day of the grace period.  Any payments received after that business day will be posted with all interest and penalties due for that posting date.

Penalties
There is a five day grace period on all tax payments with regular due dates. After the grace period, interest is charged from the due date until the date of receipt of payment, as stipulated by the New Jersey state statutes at the following rates:

  • The first $1,500 of delinquency - 8%
  • Delinquency in excess of $1,500 - 18%
  • 6% Annual penalty on delinquencies of $10,000 or more.

As a statutory officer of the State of New Jersey, the Tax Collector is obligated to follow all the State Statutes regarding property tax collection including billing, due dates, interest on delinquent tax payments and tax sale procedures.

Paying Your Taxes
Please be advised that the State of New Jersey does not allow the tax collector to acknowledge postmarks, therefore taxes must be received in the office on or before the end of the grace period (the fifth of the month due).  However, if the fifth falls on a weekend or legal holiday, you have until the next business day to make payment.  All payments may be made by cash, check, money order.

  • When paying in person, bring your entire bill with you so that we may receipt the back of the bill for you.
  • When paying by mail, send the stub with your check and or if you wish to have a receipt, please send the entire bill with a self-addressed stamped envelope to:

Double Check Your Checks
It is quite often necessary to return checks that are incorrectly written.  These errors can result in delays that may cause interest charges for late payments.
By following the pointers listed below we hope some of these most common errors can be avoided.

  • Ensure the amount written out matches the amount in the number box.  This is the most common error.
  • Your check must be made payable to Plumsted Township Tax Collector.
  • Make sure your check is signed and dated.
  • Please make sure the account you are writing the check on is valid.
  • We are unable to accept post-dated checks.

In the event that your taxes are being paid beyond the five-day grace period, please call the Collector's office at 609-758-2241 ext. 121 for the amount of interest to be included in your payment.

If there are any questions or concerns not addressed here, you may email Kelly Creighton, Tax Collector.
